TOUR SCHEDULE
Day 1. Arrival
Welcome to Kansai International airport! Your guide will meet you, help to buy a sim-card, exchange currency and accompany you to the hotel.
Day 2. Explore to Osaka - the heart of Kansai!
Japan’s second-largest metropolis—a city rich in history, culture, and unique local character. Known as the “Kitchen of the Kansai Region,” Osaka offers a perfect blend of tradional charm and modern energy.
Lively neighbourhoods, hidden gems, and the unforgettable atmosphere, every corner of Osaka has a story to tell. For a truly special experience, you’ll have the chance to visit a historic spa frequented by aristocrats and members of the Imperial family.
Day 3. From Osaka to Tanabe – Gateway to the Sacred Kumano Kodo
We explore the highlights of Osaka and in the afternoon, we head to Tanabe—the starting point of the ancient Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route, walked by emperors and commoners alike in search of spiritual purification. Enjoy a scenic 2–3 hour train ride as urban landscapes give way to plum orchards, ocean views, and forested mountains. In Tanabe, the second-largest city in Wakayama Prefecture, we’ll learn about the legendary warrior monk Benkei stroll in the Ajikoji district, and unwind in a local izakaya.
Did you know? Tanabe is also the birthplace of the founding father of Aikido!
Day 4. Walking Kumano Kodo
We set out on the Kumano Kodo, an ancient, mystical pilgrimage route shrouded in legend, wonder, and spiritual mystery.
Every stone and signpost is steeped in history—you’ll feel it with every step. The route's length and difficulty will be tailored to suit the group. The night we'll spend in a traditional ryokan, where you’ll experience the unique atmosphere as well as the warmth of Japanese hospitality.
Our night will be in Kawayu Onsen, where you can bathe in natural hot springs right in the river. There’s also an open-air thermal pool and a hotel onsen for total relaxation.

Day 5. Journey Through Japan’s Spiritual Heartland
As we continue our walk through the ancient forests of the Kii Peninsula, along ocean cliffs and up mountain peaks where the wind sings hymns to the sun, you may begin to feel what it truly means to be alive—to celebrate the joy of lifed.
For many travellers, such paths bring clarity, inspiration, and long-awaited answers for ages people have come here seeking retreat, reflection, and the power of sacred places.
Today is we continue our journey through the spiritual heart of Japan—a day of breathtaking beauty and deep personal meaning. This is a rare experience, a gift you afforded yourself.
Our path leads us to Kumano Hongu Taisha, one of the Three Grand Shrines of Kumano. Arriving here is truly something to cherish.
We’ll end the day with a peaceful stay in a traditional ryokan, soaking in the healing waters of Yunomine Onsen—a charming hot spring town. Don’t miss a visit to Tsuboyu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Japan’s most unique bath experiences.
Walking time: 2–3 hours in the morning, rest, then another 2–3 hours in the afternoon.
Day 6. River Journey to Kumano Hayatama Taisha
Today, we travel as the pilgrims once did—by river.
After breakfast, a short bus ride (40 minutes) takes us to the pier, where we begin a serene boat journey through ancient landscapes. It’s a rare opportunity to absorb the spirit of this sacred region.
We arrive at Kumano Hayatama Taisha, one of the Three Grand Shrines of Kumano—a true Place of Power. Feel the reverence, take in the energy, and let it guide you forward.
Next, a 40-minute bus ride brings us to a coastal town famous for its tuna, where we’ll enjoy the freshest seafood and relax for the night.
Day 7. Whale Watching and Ocean Onsen
If you thought this journey couldn’t get more unique—it will be!
Early morning whale watching awaits. Seeing these majestic creatures in their natural habitat is nothing short of unforgettable.
After returning to the port and enjoying lunch, the afternoon is devoted to relaxation in ocean-view hot springs. Bathe in thermal pools hidden in caves, gaze out at the sea, watch waves crash against the cliffs—it’s the kind of peace you’ll want to last forever.
Day 8. Kumano Nachi Taisha & Japan’s Tallest Waterfall
Today we visit the final of the Three Grand Shrines of Kumano—Kumano Nachi Taisha. This place pulses with energy and beauty.
Surrounded by ancient trees over 800 years old, you’ll feel the deep spiritual power of the site. Nearby, we’ll see Japan’s tallest and most sacred waterfall, a breathtaking sight.
Afterward, we travel to Wakayama, where you’ll have free time to visit the castle, enjoy an onsen, or simply unwind.
Day 9. Koyasan: Night in a Monastery
After breakfast, we head to one of Japan’s holiest sites: Mount Koya (Koyasan)—the spiritual finale of our journey.
Home to the heart of Shingon Buddhism, Koyasan offers a deeply moving experience. We’ll spend the night in a working monastery, surrounded by silence and tradition.
The afternoon includes a guided tour of sacred sites, followed by a traditional temple dinner prepared by monks—simple, beautiful, unforgettable.
And yes, the sleep here is something truly special.
Day 10. Farewell Morning at Koyasan
We rise early to take part in morning prayers, followed by breakfast.
In the evening, we begin our journey home, carrying with us memories of a life-changing adventure.
Optional Extension – Tottori: Sands, Sculptures & Pears
For those wishing to extend their journey, we offer a unique add-on trip to Tottori—home to Japan’s only real sand dunes and the filming location of The Woman in the Dunes. Visit the stunning Sand Museum, hike the dunes, and enjoy views of the ocean and sky. This region is also famous for its “20th Century” pears, fine silk, hand-made paper, and shallots. You’ll also discover a hidden mountain temple carved into the cliffs—a rare gem few travelers ever see.
